Terms of Service
Last updated August 27, 2026
These terms cover your use of Columbia in Action. By signing in, you agree to them. They are written to be readable rather than impressive — if something here is unclear, ask us.
1. Who may use the app
You may use Columbia in Action if you are a current student, faculty member, or staff member with a Columbia University (@columbia.edu) or Barnard College (@barnard.edu) Google account, and you are at least 13 years old. Your account is yours alone — do not share it or let someone else sign in as you.
2. What you post
You keep ownership of what you post. By posting, you give Columbia in Action permission to display, store, and distribute it within the app so the feature can work — a food tip nobody can see is not a food tip.
You are responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the right to post it. That includes photos: do not upload images you did not take or do not have permission to share.
3. Rules of the road
Do not use Columbia in Action to:
- Harass, threaten, defame, or target any person or student group
- Post content that is discriminatory, hateful, or intended to intimidate
- Post deliberately false information — including fake free-food tips, fake events, or reviews of clubs you have no experience with
- Impersonate another person, club, or a University office
- Post someone else's personal information without their consent
- Spam, run bots, scrape the directory, or otherwise abuse the service
- Break University policy or the law
4. Moderation
Student-submitted content is reviewed before it appears publicly. Administrators may edit, hide, or delete anything that breaks these terms, and may suspend or remove accounts — with or without notice where the content is harmful. We do not promise to review everything, and content appearing in the app is not an endorsement of it.
5. Accuracy, and what this app is not
Most content here comes from other students. Free-food tips run out. Events get moved. Club information goes stale. Verify anything that matters before you rely on it.
GPA Compass is a planning tool. Its calculations are estimates and are not an official academic record. Confirm anything that affects your standing with your advising dean or the Registrar.
6. Not a University service
Columbia in Action is an independent student project. It is not operated, endorsed, or sponsored by Columbia University or Barnard College, and it does not speak for either institution or for any club listed in the directory.
7. Availability
The app is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time, and we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or that data will never be lost. To the fullest extent the law allows, the people behind Columbia in Action are not liable for damages arising from your use of it.
8. Ending your access
You may stop using the app and request account deletion at any time by emailing us. We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who breaks these terms.
9. Changes to these terms
We will update the date at the top of this page when these terms change. Continuing to use Columbia in Action after a change means you accept the updated terms.

This is boilerplate written for a student project, not legal advice. Have a lawyer review it before relying on it.
